Havurah Shalom Shabbat School in Portland is a family cooperative Jewish education program with 125 students in Grades K-6, and 110 different parent-teachers who work in teams. Each of the 28 teaching teams plans and implements 4 sessions. Come hear how this amazing model works (for 40 years, now!): overall structure, curricula, staff support, pedagogic goals, and strengths and weaknesses regarding community building and Jewish identity construction for both parents and youth. Teachers, parents, and educational leaders can all find a pieces to take back to their Jewish educational settings.
